Court attendance/legal issues coaching

If you are in the position where you are facing court attendance, you may be feeling apprehensive and in need of the appropriate techniques and practical guidance that prepare you psychologically and emotionally to face the situation.

Legal issues coaching can be called ‘divorce coaching’, ‘courtroom coaching’ or even ‘witness coaching’. What it boils down to is coaching support that enables you to receive a more positive settlement than going down the purely legal route.

Perhaps you are going through a divorce or relationship break-up and feel unable to get past the resentment you feel towards the other person. There may be children involved: it is not relationship break-up per se that upsets the children but the way that the adults handle it. Jackie has personal and professional experience in this field – being both a lawyer and a person who has been through the break-up of relationships and brought her two children up as a single parent.

Controversy has arisen over what is perceived to be the testing of evidence in a mock cross-examination. However, there is nothing wrong whatsoever in coaching people to give evidence coherently so as to have a better experience in court. As a lawyer, Jackie advised clients on how to give evidence, for example:

  • don’t give your opinion
  • ask for the question to be repeated if you are unsure of what you have been asked
  • take your time
  • breathe slowly
