About Jackie Hawken

After obtaining a Masters degree in clinical psychology and a career in France with the United Nations (WHO) where I designed health questionnaires, trained interviewers across Europe and chaired international meetings, I returned to the UK to qualify and work as a solicitor. I am therefore bilingual and work in both English and French.

Further studies followed (see list of qualifications below): stress management, life coaching, cognitive behavioural therapy and neuro-linguistic programming as well as other therapies and technique. For 35 years I have consistently been studying, teaching, coaching and mentoring. Equanalta evolved over these years of personal development.

I have a particular interest in helping those who wish to overcome stress and depression, because, following episodes of bullying in my life, I realised I was struggling with low self-esteem. With the tools at my disposal, I pulled myself out of a ‘victim’ mentality and understood that my life experience could be of use in helping others in similar situations. Since that time I have gone from strength to strength, as do the people I work with: they appreciate working with someone who knows what it is like to experience self-doubt and fear. A professional woman, I understand the stresses and strains placed on those who ‘should’ be able to cope with their working environment but find themselves feeling isolated and alone, ashamed of their negative feelings. My greatest pleasure is to see people begin to live the life that they deserve.

As a Buddhist motivated to help people I believe, like the Dalai Lama, that the very purpose of our lives is to seek happiness. A proven way for people to free themselves from their ‘washing-machine minds’ is with the incredible power of meditation and self-compassion: I use this with those I work with and teach it in my workshops.

I offer one to one consultations in my treatment room in Bristol, in London, Paris, Lyon, Portland (Oregon) and anywhere else that I am called to. Consultations can also take place by telephone, skype, e-mail, at clients’ homes and places of work in any combination to suit.

My workshops and courses run throughout the year. Some are public – the vast majority are private courses for professional organisations.
